Keepin' It Real
Hola mis amigos!! Les extraño muchísimo!
Okay okay, so I'm going to keep it super real in this email today. Normally I give you guys the highlights, but today I'm going to talk about the parts of missionary life that missionaries don't talk about. So buckle down.
I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY WITH MY WHOLE HEART!! But some days are tougher than others. This past week for me physically and emotionally was super difficult. For those of you who may not know, I struggled a lot with various knee issues in high school, and had them under control in college and before my mission. But a few weeks ago after I played soccer with my district, my knee began to be in a lot of pain. I thought my old injury was just flaring up and I started doing physical therapy exercises I knew to help strengthen the muscles in my knee. But the workouts have not been helping and have only made the pain worse... and in an entirely new spot in my knee. It's been painful to walk and be on my feet all the time, but the Lord has SERIOUSLY helped me out and given me strength to do His work. (Don't worry yall I'm going to see a doctor to make sure it's nothing too serious, but prayers would be much appreciated because I'm a little nervous). And worrying about that has been very emotionally draining. But the Lord provides a way, and I know that todo va a estar bien :))
I love the work out here! The people are just wonderful and I love love love it. A few nights ago we had a noche de hogar at la casa de la familia Aguilar! (A family home evening at the Aguilar's house). It was super duper awesome and we invited a lot of our friends over! Our friends Cynthia, Armando, la familia Ilano, y José Martinez came! They're all so amazing! All the missionaries in my ward and I taught a lesson about the Holy Ghost. We did an activity where we blindfolded 3 of our friends and had to lead them through an "obstacle course", but the thing is the leader (or the Holy Ghost) could only speak in a soft voice while everyone else in the room was speaking very loudly trying to get the person blindfolded to stray off the path. It was SO FUN! And my friend Mia successfully made it through... despite running into most of the chairs... haha, but she made it. The spirit was so strong, and I have a feeling we'll definitely be doing another noche de hogar very very soon.
We had to drop some previously progressing friends this week, which was super sad. But it's all in the Lord's timing, and I hope that all of those friends will one day accept messages from missionaries again.
But we had a bit of a funny lesson yesterday! We met with our friend Antonio, and for some background, he likes to ask some strange questions, for example "How did Noah fit all those animals on the arc?". But this time he asked another strange question that left Hermana Worthington and I speechless. We were teaching about the Restoration, and I finished sharing Joseph Smith's experience with the First Vision and paused for a minute to allow the spirit to fill his heart. But he deemed this the perfect moment to share an experience he had. He said that he had a similar experience to Joseph, and that one day while he was driving through the desert he saw a pillar of light, and he proceeded to tell us that it didn't come from a helicopter, or an airplane, but from..... ALIENS. Then he went on this whole rant about how we need to believe there is life beyond our planet. And Hermana Worthington and I had no words. He just kept asking if we believed in aliens while we were trying to teach him about the Restoration . Be then took some pictures of us with his little puppy (which I'll be sure and include in here).
I am off to the San Diego Temple again today, so stay tuned for those pics as well
I love you all! Prayers for my knee would be much appreciated!!
Love,
Hermana Grimm
